공항이 있는 훌훌레 섬에서
스피트 보트(약 10분)를 타고

이용후기
프레스코
호텔 역시 방은 좁지만 가격대비
깨끗하고 그냥 잠만 자고
나오기엔 문제없음. 도착하니
웰컴 드링크로 망고를 갈은
쥬스를 제공해주고, 미니바에는
생수 외엔 아무것도 없었음.
호텔은 인도식 게스트하우스(민박)
형식으로 방에 들어가면 조그만
거실이 있고 방이 2개 정도
있음. 각 방은 원룸 형식으로
화장실과 샤워실이 있음.
비수기라 그런지 다행이 우리층(2층)에는
아무도 없었으나, 만약 같이
사용한다면 옆방과 방음이
좀 안좋을 것으로 예상됨.
침대는 싱글매트리스 두 개를
붙여놓은 형태로 넓었으나
스프링이 그리 탄탄하지는
않음. 어차피 프레스코 호텔에서는
깨끗한거 외엔 많은 것을
기대하지 않았기 때문에 큰
불만은 없었음.

말레
인도양에
있는 몰디브의 수도. 스리랑카에서
남서쪽으로 약 670Km 떨어져
있는 환초섬이다. 몰디브의
행정중심지인 말레에는 중앙
법원들과 국립병원, 영어
교육을 공·사립학교들,
공학에 중점을 두고 있는
직업훈련학교가 있다. 말레는
무역의 중심지로서 기선항로와
훌룰레 성(말레 환초 안에
있는 말레 섬 근처)의 활주로를
통해 스리랑카·인도와
연결된다. 말레의 주여산물은
코코넛, 빵나무, 물고기(가다랭이와
참치), 종려나무 잎으로 짠
돗자리 등이다. 말레에 사는
소규모 엘리트 집단이 정치,
경제, 사회를 지배하고 있으며,
정당, 자유언론, 노조 등은
존재하지 않는다. 한편, 말레로의
인구집중이 큰 문제로 대두되고
있으며, 사형제도 및 정규감옥은
없고 가택연금 또는 유배형에
처하고 있다.

말레투어
말레는
여전히 푸르고 쾌청하고,
거리는 나무들로 이루어진
자연 지붕아래 그늘져 있습니다.
많은 주요 거리들은 줄지어
늘어선 나무들로 길 양쪽
모두가 그늘로 드리워져 있고
한가로이 그 길을 걸으며
생선시장과 재래시장, 새
항구, 400년 된 Friday 사원을
돌아보는 일은 아름다운 추억이
될 것입니다. 원주민이 사는
지역과 쇼핑가를 두루 돌아보면서
말레 사람들의 삶과 정서를
좀더 깊이 느낄 수도 있습니다.
아니면 그저 작은 공원에
앉아 휴식을 즐기면서 여유로운
휴가를 만끽하는 것도 좋을
듯 합니다. 말레에는 셀 수
없이 많은 오토바이들이 지나가는
진기한 풍경을 볼 수 있고,
원한다면 택시로 말레투어를
할 수도 있습니다. 몰디브의
택시는 깨끗하고 편안하며
정부에서 책정하는 요금은
4인 이하 한 장소에서 다른
장소로 이동하는 경우 15루피아,
짐 가방 한 개당 5루피아
정도입니다. 기본요금은 6루피아이고
자정에서 아침 6시까지는
12루피아로 오릅니다.
